Round Table 4: Education and Empowerment of the workforce

22 October / Eindhoven, the Netherlands
Organised by e-Ucare

The final Roundtable of Health Cluster Europe takes place on October 22, during the World Health and Design Forum 2014!

We would like to invite you to the last Round Table of Health Cluster Europe that takes place in Eindhoven, Noord-Brabant, the Netherlands on Wednesday, October 22nd. The Round Table will tackle the theme of organisational change in care and healthcare with a special focus on Education and Empowerment of the workforce. Part of the roundtable is also a couple of site visits in the morning of October 23rd.

This round table is an integral part of the inspiring World Health & Design Forum 21-23rd October:  http://www.whdf2014.com that takes places during the Dutch Design Week: http://www.ddw.nl

Participants of the round table participating on behalf of one of the Health Cluster Europe projects are eligible to having full access to the WHDF programme without paying the conference fee. Please indicate in the form which lead partner has invited you to participate in this round table. You will then soon receive a confirmation of your registration for the round table and the two site visits, and your possible eligibility for a free WHDF ticket.

This event has a special focus on education and empowerment of professional and family caregivers, in the introduction of ICT in care and healthcare. The implementation and scaling of smart solutions for independent living and integrated care cannot be realised without involvement of formal and informal caregivers.

Three inspirational speakers share their expertise and vision on informal and professional care.
Dr. Deirdre Beneken genaamd Kolmer, Professor Informal Care, The Hague University of Applied Sciences, Tilburg University. 'How do we reach a Care Justitia?'
Dr. Dorien Voskuil, Lecturer and program leader Research at The Hague University of Applied Sciences
Dr. Eveline Wouters, Lecturer Health Innovations and Technology at Fontys University of Applied Sciences.

All speakers share their expertise and vision on informal and professional care. For innovators it is of great importance to understand the responsibilities and changes these groups are facing. How can we as innovators guide caregivers into using technological solutions in order to help them care for others? And is it necessary to make changes in our organisations and communication to make this happen?

Two exclusive site visits are organised at October 23rd for the participants to the round table. We will visit Zuidzorg - a large regional care company - and see how they've changed their view on improving care services by adopting design thinking and by working closely together with designers.
The 2nd visit is a guided tour in the Graduation Show of the Design Academy Eindhoven with the focus on projects in care and healthcare. Students will be there to explain their projects and how they've worked with the companies in achieving these results. http://www.designacademy.nl/

Implementing health innovations through European collaboration

09:00 / House of the Dutch Provinces, Brussels (BE)
Organised by e-Ucare

Workshop organised by Health Cluster Europe during the European Open Days 2014.

The focus of this workshop will be on European collaboration so as to scale up health innovations and accelerate their route to the market. One of the main goals of our cluster is to share knowledge and experiences and to create synergies between our partners. We will pursue this in our workshop as well.

An important topic of discussion in our cluster is the implementation of health innovations in the healthcare market. How to introduce innovations to the market and end-users? How to deal with regulations when being active in different European countries? After all, regulations of healthcare markets differ significantly per European country. And how do we involve SMEs? Can we learn from each other’s experiences?

During the workshop, we will discover how European collaboration can help overcome challenges faced in the cross-border healthcare markets. Marcel de Pender, the moderator of the day, will start by explaining the necessity and added value of Health Cluster Europe.  Next, we will invite representatives of Interreg and the AAL to business programmes to explain how their programmes contribute to the scaling of health innovations. Also, collaboration between the two programmes will be touched upon. Subsequently, two of our cluster projects are invited to the stage to discuss their experiences with European collaboration. After these plenary sessions, the audience will be divided into groups of 4 to 5 persons. In a world-café setting, they will discuss different themes such as ‘implementation of health innovations’, ‘involvement of SMEs’, and ‘working in a cross-border environment’ so as to get to know each other, share knowledge and connect.

Preliminary programme of the workshop:
09.00    Welcome and introduction of Health Cluster Europe – Marcel de Pender
09.10    Perspective of Interreg programme – Representative JTS
09.20    Perspective of AAL programme – Representative AAL to business
09.30     Dialogue with moderator and representatives of JTS and AAL
09.40    Experiences of Health Cluster Europe – Representative of one of the key partners
09.50    Why working in a European context – Representative of partner active in cross-border activities
10.00      Discussing themes with audience in a world-café setting
10.45    Coffee

How to move forward from a Business-to-Business oriented AAL market to a more Business to Consumer oriented AAL market?

AAL JP side event of the Brussels Open Days

Why investing in ICT for ageing? A regional perspective.

How to move forward from a Business-to-Business oriented AAL market to a more Business to Consumer oriented AAL market?

Time:        October 8th 2014  - 13.00 - 17.00 h.
Venue:      The Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium, 1 Rue Ducale, B-1000 Brussels
Organiser:  AAL Association (Ambient and Assisted Living Joint Programme and Active and Assisted Living Programme)   in collaborationwith Coral, ENGAGED and EIP AHA.

Register here: http://bit.ly/1pggD3x

Short description:
This event aims at connecting regional strategies on social inclusion, boosting innovation and creativity in ways to promote and keep the well being of an ageing society.  An interactive session facilitates a lively exchange of experience, good practices and opinions among representatives of local and regional authorities and with ICT industry representatives in particular on relevant policies, implementations of such policies as well as financing through new business models and innovative procurement of ICT based solutions for ageing well. An increased mutual understanding between the different stakeholders’ points of view regarding needs, use and procurement in this area is the main outcome expected.

Expected participants:
80 participants, local and regional authorities, AAL businesses, regional innovation clusters, European end user organisations and European organisations representing different stakeholders within the domain of Active and Healthy Ageing. We are specially encouraging the unusual suspects - like the participants to the Brussels Open Days - who are curious about scaling smart AAL solutions to participate.

Rationale:
There are plenty of AAL solutions developed and close to the market, many of them resulting from European projects funded by the AAL Programmes http://www.aal-europe.eu/. We all know that the implementation and up scaling of these solutions are a challenge and is not an easy task to fulfil. There are some barriers that need to be solved for the actual deployment of AAL solutions.

Innovative procurement is a challenge, but also a way to contribute to the implementation of AAL solutions. Innovative procurement is not an easy process as procurers are lacking a good overview of innovative solutions. There is not yet a good insight in the evidence on impact of these solutions. We also lack an overview and insight in the actual experiences of end users already who are using these solutions in practice.

The AAL programme facilitates the adequate framework conditions to integrate the end users requirements in the whole lifecycle of the AAL research and innovation projects. Nevertheless end users are not yet sufficiently involved in the implementation of AAL solutions. Like procurers, they also do not have a good overview of all the innovations they could benefit from. Their interest in these solutions is increasing rapidly. Where can they find proper AAL solutions?

Where can they buy these solutions? Which solutions are reimbursable by their government or insurance company? The AAL JP has launched a manual on methodologies to adequately involve end - users that is available on the following link: http://www.aal-europe.eu/involving-end-users/ The AAL Association is also participating in the EIP AHA in the Action Group C2 Innovative independent living solutions. We work together with other stakeholders like regional authorities on improvement of user involvement as well as on the development of a common approach to improve the evidence culture in Europe.

Both these improvements and good stakeholder collaborations are important constraints to come to new business models as well for AAL solutions. We need new business models to achieve more value creation for citizens and end users. Because of shrinking health care budgets and the pressure on the existing health systems we see that the AAL market is starting to move from a more business-to-business market towards a more business to consumer market. Consumers are ready for it, but the market is not there yet. This is a relatively new market. Companies are not used to communicate directly to end users and consumers. How to do this? What kind of business models needs to be developed?  What role can regional and local policies play to stimulate these developments?

This event offers an excellent opportunity to talk more in depth about actions already taken to solve these barriers by different stakeholders and to exchange experiences between AAL businesses and regional and local policy makers and other organisations like development agencies that can support AAL businesses in this transforming AAL market.

Therefore we defined the following Central theme for this session:

Demographic changes make it necessary to organise the care and housing of senior citizens and chronically ill in a smarter way including the use of ICT. This also gives opportunities for innovative companies to develop new tools and services.

INNOVAge project aims at helping older people to live independently for longer in their own homes by increasing their autonomy and by the emerging of new ‘technological supply chains’ associated with new developments like independent living and eco-innovation, with a valuable contribution to minimize environmental impact of elderly daily life activities.

With this aim, both project decided to join forces and organize a common Final Conference that will be held in Brussels on 7th October 2014 moderated by Meike de Jong.

Regions in CASA and INNOVAge also work closely together in the Community of Regions for Assisted Living (Coral) a European network of regions collaborating on up scaling smart solutions for independent living and integrated care. The ambitions, networks and spirit of CASA and INNOVAge continue to live on in the Coral network: www.coral-europe.eu

Round Table on Patient Empowerment

09:00 / Gent, Belgium
Organised by e-Ucare

Want to gain insights and hands-on experience on Patient Empowerment? Come and join us for the next round table!

The next Round Table of Health Cluster Europe will take place in Gent, Belgium on Wednesday, September 24. The Round Table will focus on the theme Patient Empowerment.

In a fast pace a lot of new types of treatments,  technologies, products and information systems have been introduced to the health and wellbeing market. Solutions that are designed to assist people who are in a vulnerable moment in their lives. Therefore it is crucial to know what their needs are and implement this knowledge into our projects.

In the processes of designing and providing care, the care receivers or -users need to participate as an autonomous actor taking increased responsibility and a more active role in decision making regarding his or her health. This active role is referred to as ‘patient empowerment’ and occurs when the goal is to increase the capacity of patients to think critically and make autonomous, informed decisions. Empowerment also occurs when patients are actually making autonomous, informed decisions about self-management.

From their own function and experience service users develop a view on care providing and use of assistive technology. During the Round Table insights and hands-on experience will be given on how to involve patients in decision making processes, improve their health literacy and self-management capacity. Additionally, you have the opportunity to visit a Care Ethics lab where empowerment and dignity in care are trained through learning by experience.

If you are looking for tips and tricks to approach patients with respect, mobilizing their potential in (re)designing care, then this Round Table is definitely an inspiration.

Program:
09h30  Welcome
10h00  Testimonials and workshop on patient empowerment

- Introduction and theoretical framework by Filip Dumez (HUB KAHO)

Growing the Silver Economy in Europe

09:00 / Brussels, Belgium
Organised by e-Ucare

Event organised by the European Commission to discuss how to best grow a large scale Silver Economy in Europe.

The EU has already launched a number of measures to stimulate this market and to help European industry (and SMEs in particular) to be in the driving seat. They include the Active and Assisted Living Joint Programme, the eHealth Action Plan, the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing as well as dedicated parts of Horizon 2020 Societal Challenge 1 on Health, Wellbeing and Active Ageing. However, more is needed before this market really takes off.

We invite in particular industry and SMEs, but also policy, research, care professionals, service providers and consumers to join and share their views on what it takes to make Europe the world leader in the silver economy. What can policy makers and governments at regional, national and EU level do more to help? What should industry do? How to best mobilise the consumers?

The outcomes will be used to stimulate further actions at all levels, including the EU.

This event is by invitation only. If you are interested, please contact ec-eip-aha@ec.europa.eu and state your reasons for wanting to take part.

Session of AAL Forum organised by partner Dignity in Care

10:30 / Bucharest, Romania
Organised by e-Ucare

Partner Dignity in Care will host a session during the AAL Forum 2014 on their care ethics lab!

Care ethics lab

The workshop's aim is to discuss solutions for increasing the quality of health and social care, leading to better dignity and patient centered care. The objective is to improve the impact of experimental learning on the ethical reflection and practice by students and professionals in health and social care organizations in the cross-border region by experience based learning in a sTimul: care-ethics lab. Being cared for is a highly stressful experience, placing the patient in a dependent situation were dignity is often overlooked. We want to make all groups of stakeholders aware of this and learn how to reflect an act on non technical issues.

Session of AAL Forum organised by Health Cluster Europe

10:30 / Bucharest, Romania
Organised by e-Ucare

On September 11, we are organising a session of the AAL Forum 2014 on broadening AAL!

Session Chair: Meike de Jong, Meike de Jong Media (The Netherlands)
Session Responsible: Peter Portheine, Brainport Health Innovation/Slimmer Leven 2020 Brainport (The Netherlands) and Edwin Mermans, Coral/ENGAGED/CASA/Province of Noord-Brabant (The Netherlands)

A landscape of European networks, programs, partnerships, projects and clusters has arisen in recent years all working on implementation of smart ICT solutions for independent living & integrated care. Together we are a learning community to tackle the barriers for up scaling and create a market for AAL technology. We’ve learned that the regional scale makes a difference for serious implementation. Large entities in this European learning community are the Ambient Assisted Living Joint Programme (AAL JP), European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing (EIP AHA) – including the 35 regional reference sites – and the Community of Regions for Assisted Living (CORAL) about regional policy for Active and Healthy Ageing connecting regional innovation clusters. Within the Interreg programme the ‘Strategic Health Cluster Europe’ brings together parties from the Interreg IVA/B/C program with a total of 128 partners. Interreg projects involved are CAN, CASA, COALAS, CURA-B, DIC, GCS, In2Lifesciences, Innovate Dementia, istay@home, ITTS, NeuroSKILL, RECAP, SYSIASS, Telemedicine and Personalized Care and TTC. The Assembly of European Regions (AER) with an e-Health network and several projects like the Thematic Network ENGAGED are on the same mission. Also small innovation clusters in Central European countries are ready to join this growing European learning network. How can we connect all these networks, partnerships, programmes and clusters better to the AAL JP.

The session touches on how to create regional alignment between AAL and other European programs, projects and networks. Not only for regions to be better equipped and to be involved in such programs but also because a coherent regional strategy allows much better and wider implementation of AAL technology once developed. We will showcase Reference sites explaining their specific regional and unique selling points, focusing on specific thematic issues from references site to AAL solution. Answers to questions like: How can twinning activities, side events and activities from the EIP AHA, Coral, AER, Interreg contribute to better implementation and up scaling of smart ICT solutions? How can the AAL JP be promoted better within the regional innovation clusters? How can regional and municipal governments be involved and stimulated to participate in the AAL JP? What can networks like Coral, AER and the reference site do to include and mobilise partners in Central European countries? How to mobilize the regions and governments that are unengaged so far?

Invited Speakers:
Peter Portheine Brainport / Slimmer Leven 2020 (The Netherlands)
Maurice Smith, Liverpool Clinical Commissioning Group (United Kingdom)
Esteban de Manuel Keenoy, Kronikgune, Basque Country (Spain)
Ida Prosperi, Sviluppo Marche SpA, Marche Region RDA (Italy)

EHMA Annual Conference

10:00 / Birmingham
Organised by Innovate Dementia

Hosted by the University of Birmingham, the 2014 EHMA Annual Conference is to take place, for the first time from Tuesday 24 to Thursday 26 June

Health systems in Europe are facing unparalleled levels of challenge, complexity and uncertainty. Health system leaders, at every level, have a responsibility to engage with and tackle the enduring problems of funding constraints, technological developments, cost pressures, increasing chronic disease, ageing populations and growing societal expectations and demands.

From the frontline to board level the quality of leadership is a crucial determinant of the quality, effectiveness and safety of health services. Effective leadership is needed not just within organisations but across them, in health systems and networks, across sectoral boundaries such as health and social care, and across the public, private and not for profit sectors. Many of the current challenges for health systems require leaders who can create teams across healthcare and other sectors, lead networks, create a stable and motivated workforce and be accountable to boards, funders, the public and patients as well.

Interactive sessions and several networking opportunities together with an informal and relax atmosphere will facilitate the discussion, the exchange and the birth (or consolidation) of partnerships among the representatives of all health sectors coming from all around Europe and beyond.

Join us in Birmingham for a three-day conference that will bring together over 300 researchers, policy makers, managers and health leaders.

Het Dementie Congres

09:30 / ReeHorst - Ede
Organised by Innovate Dementia

De eerste 200 deelnemers betalen € 199 (excl BTW) i.p.v. € 249,- excl. BTW) dus wees er op tijd bij!
